Funding Industry-Academic Interaction
The Innovation Partnership Programme
The Enterprise Ireland Innovation Partnership Programme encourages Irish based companies to work with Irish colleges to access their expertise and resources to develop new and improved products, processes, services, and generate new knowledge and know-how. Enterprise Ireland provides grants of up to 80% towards eligible costs of the research project. The proposal process and administration of the project is managed by the participating third level research institution. To qualify for funding, the research project must outline how the company will benefit in terms of its growth, the evolution of strategic R&D within the company and the creation of new knowledge that can be used by the company to generate commercial advantage. Further information is available here on the Enterprise Ireland website
The IRCSET Enterprise Partnership Scheme
The IRCSET Enterprise Partnership Scheme is an innovative initiative through which IRCSET links with private enterprise and eligible public bodies to award co-funded postgraduate scholarships and postdoctoral fellowships to the most promising researchers in Ireland. It provides industry with flexible and easy access to an exceptional pool of competitively selected, high calibre researchers and the opportunity to build links with relevant academic research groups. The Scheme facilitates the establishment of new relationships and the strengthening of existing relationships between industry and academia while offering financial support to researchers at an early stage of their career development. Further information is available here.
The Innovation Voucher Programme
The Enterprise Ireland Innovation Voucher initiative was developed to build links between Ireland's public knowledge providers (i.e. higher education institutes, public research bodies) and small businesses. Innovation Vouchers worth €5,000 are available to assist a company or companies to explore a business opportunity or problem with a registered knowledge provider.Further information is available at www.innovationvouchers.ie
EU FP7 Funding
FP7 is the short name for the Seventh Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development. This is the EU's main instrument for funding research in Europe and it will run from 2007-2013 with a budget of approximately €50 billion covering the period 2007 to 2013. Ireland has already benefitted greatly from previous EU Framework programmes, with our third level and company-based researchers drawing down almost €200 million from the Sixth EU Framework Programme. Fully Funded Industry Research
Fully Funded Industry Research is a research activity, funded at full economic cost, by a company or not-for-profit organisation. Such an approach is suitable for short “consultancy” type projects as well as more prolonged engagements. Advantages over State granted aided projects include a quicker project proposal approval process and greater contractual flexibility. Please contact us
SFI funded CSETs link scientists and engineers in partnerships across academia and industry to address crucial research questions, foster the development of new and existing Irish technology companies, and expand educational and career opportunities for Ireland’s citizens in science and engineering. CSET Partners must include industry and may also include institutes or organisations that invest funds or valuable intellectual capital in the centre. New partners (industrial and academic) may join a CSET at any time. Click here for a list of established SFI funded CSETs. The SRC programme has been designed to facilitate the clustering of outstanding researchers to carry out joint research activities in areas of strategic importance to Ireland. While also giving the time and resources to attract and cultivate strong industry partnerships that can inform and enhance their research programmes. New partners (industrial and academic) may join an SRC at any time. Click here for a list of established SFI funded SRCs Competence Centres are collaborative entities established and led by industry. They are resourced by highly qualified researchers associated with research institutions who are empowered to undertake market focussed strategic R&D for the benefit of industry. This is a joint initiative between Enterprise Ireland and IDA Ireland allowing Irish companies and multinationals to work together in these centres. Further information of the competence centres can be found here SFI Centres for Science Engineering and Technology (CSETs)
